About

  • Ideal if you understand how to set the exposure of your camera manually and want to learn how to use filters to improve your photographs.
  • We visit several locations along the banks of the Forth River to capture sunrise and sunset, panoramas and change the way we see movement in water.
  • This is a full-day workshop, picking up from Edinburgh a couple of hours before sunrise and returning about an hour after sunset.
  • Lunch is not included
  • Experience level – intermediate and advanced

What to Bring

  • A camera that you can set the exposure manually
  • A good sturdy tripod.
  • It is helpful to have a wide-angle lens and a long zoom, although if you only have a kit-lens then that will still be fine for this workshop.
  • You will need a filter system such as Lee, Nisi or Cokin with ND and ND graduated filters
  • Ensure your camera batteries are fully charged and strongly consider having a spare
  • An empty memory card, we’ll take about 150 photographs during the session.

Important information
More Information

  • You will need to bring your camera and a sturdy tripod. Most of the images we will be taking will tend to be using wider angle lenses although if you have a long zoom such as a 70- 200mm then bring that as well. We will also be using filters throughout the workshop, as a minimum you will need to have at least one graduated filter and one neutral density filter. Please contact me well in advance of the workshop if you don’t own filters and want some advice on the best ones to purchase.

  • We will be walking on some rough terrain including beaches and rocks so ensure that you are wearing footwear that can cope with these conditions, it is likely that we will be by the edge of the water and so there is a chance that your shoes could get wet so it is best to be wearing waterproof boots or wellingtons. Wrap up warm, we will be shooting from before dawn right though to after sunset and it can get cold.

  • Don’t forget to charge the batteries on your camera and if possible bring spares, battery life is reduced in cold weather. Also remember to have memory cards.

  • We will stop for lunch during the day (please note lunch is not included), however, it can be good to have snacks such as breakfast bars during the day.

  • Please Bring a copy of your confirmation email.
